I have seen this milk bottle carrier in our family's house since ever! I remember when my mother used to store wine or canned tomatoes. It finally turned to be used as a decor item somewhere in the kitchen and eventually ended in my hands! It's a real beauty! The metal color is dull and rust is visible on joints and nails but do not alter its genuine character.
I never wanted to have it painted as I was afraid of taking off those charming shades of grey but I changed my mind. Yes I did, because of milk paint! Milk paint is just perfect for metal as it keeps weathered details intact on any piece of antiques. Furthermore this milk bottle carrier needed soft attention. I let it dry in the sun after cleaning and started my milk painting project.
I chose Loyalist from Homestead House milk paint and softly sanded with a sanding sponge. It reminds this weathered zinc-grey tone you find on any vintage metal piece. I painted white a few glass bottles to remind its original function.
The result is just great, I love it!
