Rainbow dresser

Hi,

This lovely kitchen dresser has been repaired and painted a while ago but for some reason I hadn't published anything about it on the blog so here it is.
What I love about it is to explain the whole process of fixing, repairing and painting furniture from beginning to end.
It was love at first sight and in spite of the bad shape and dirt, I could see a treasure and that it could turn into something magnificent!
The pictures were taken from my cell phone so it's not great but you can follow the steps.

Original condition

Except the bottom shelf which was in a terrible shape due to a long water exposure, the piece was OK, the doors and drawers fittings were still fine so I put the piece upside down and started the work.

As you can see, the bottom was damaged and rotten in areas but not impossible to fix.

The repairs
The varnish was peeling on the sides so sanding was mandatory. I cleaned with hot water and ammonia and let dry. I used a woodworm prevent liquid all over and let dry again for a few days. I then applied putty in all damaged areas and sanded it all.

I had to remove the bottom shelf and repair the damages caused by moisture and primer the inside. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of every step but you can see the progress.
I replace the door panels by chicken mesh and added strong wheels to make the piece easy to move.

Painting
The base color was dark brown and I then played along with other vibrant colors. Crackled glaze has been used in edges to add old character to the piece. I didn't follow anything by the book, just imagination!

Once dry I used dark wax all over.
